In the public sector there has been a definite trend of moving from permanent vehicles and drivers to using hired vehicles for all purposes. Reasons for such situation is that over the years it has been found that hired vehicles are less expensive and also come up with less problems in comparison to having permanent vehicle establishment. Not only there is no problem of having permanent drivers but also the procurer is not likely to be bothered about the maintenance aspects of the vehicle hired. That is why one finds numerous vehicle hiring tenders floated by public authorities in traditional media and internet.
Vehicle Hiring in Private Sector
Usually industrial houses, corporate sector, as well as the hotel industries are the largest procurer of vehicles on hire. Large numbers of vehicle hiring tenders are floated by these sectors. Hotels require vehicles for catering to the requirements of visitors for transportation, tourism, and other travel purposes. Industrial houses require vehicles not only for the movement of people but also for the procurement and transportation of raw materials and finished products.

- For short term hiring the vehicles are indented on hourly basis for local travels and on mileage basis for longer travels.
- Vehicles are also hired for transportation and other purposes and at times for medical purposes. This can be long or short terms and usually an agreement or contract is signed.
Requirements for Bidders
Whether it is long term or short term vehicle hiring tender, the bidder should make it a point to provide good vehicles in perfect running condition for the purpose. It will not only please the client but will be useful in winning the bid because the procurer is likely to check firsthand the type of vehicle the bidder is going to provide.
In addition, the bidder should be specific on every point in responding to the tender and see to it that all the specifications provided in the tender advertisement is met appropriately.
